Round 11: Another "Marseille" failure © EuroFootball.com

Over the weekend, the 11th round of matches in the French "Ligue 1" championship took place. The "Marseille" team, who have recently been experiencing a series of failures, extended their streak by unexpectedly losing 2-1 to "Nice" on Sunday, while the championship leader "Lyon" secured another victory and increased their lead even further.

The biggest sensation on Saturday was recorded in Troyes, where the local team faced one of the championship leaders, "St Etienne". The turning point in the match came when the away player Frederic Piquionne was sent off the field for a second yellow card. However, "St Etienne" did not intend to sit back and in the 39th minute managed to take the lead, with Pascalis Feindouno beating Troyes goalkeeper Quentin Westberg. The home team could not afford to miss out on their quantitative advantage, and in the beginning of the second half Gael Danic equalized the score, while in the 74th minute of the game Gharib Amzine put the home team ahead. Five minutes later, David Gigliotti of "Troyes" secured a point in the match.

In the match in Nice, the hosts took the lead first, as Cyril Rool scored against the "Marseille" goalkeeper in the 25th minute. "Nice" maintained their advantage until the 62nd minute, when their attacker Mickael Pagis finally broke through the opponent's defense. However, that was all "Marseille" managed to create in this match. Moreover, in the final minute of the game, a penalty was awarded in Marseille's favor, which was successfully converted by Ederson, securing an important victory for his team.

Unlike the "Marseille" team, who had started the championship successfully, "Lyon" continues to maintain their momentum and secure one victory after another. This time, the champions faced the somewhat unexpectedly high-ranked "Nancy" team in 3rd place before this round. However, "Lyon" had no trouble in these matches, as they secured a victory with a minimal result of 1-0 in the 13th minute after a long break through a goal by Norwegian John Carew.
