On Monday, the last matches of the 10th round of the English Premier League championship were played. In Manchester, the neighbors of the tournament table met: "Middlesbrough," occupying the 14th place, and "Man City" in 15th place. In this match, only one goal was enough for the "Man City" team to achieve a very important victory and end a series of four consecutive unsuccessful matches.
"Man City" 1 - 0 "Middlesbrough"
23‘ [1 - 0] Richard Dunne
Both teams started the match a bit nervously. Neither team was able to create particularly memorable moments. The first dangerous attack happened in front of "Middlesbrough" goal, when in the 21st minute, Greek international and "Man City" striker Georgios Samaras' shot from just a few meters was blocked by "Boro" goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
A few moments later, the only goal of the match was scored. In the 23rd minute, after a corner kick lifted by "Man City" captain Joey Barton towards the far post, defender Richard Dunne, who jumped the highest of all in this round, headed the ball into the top left corner of the goal, leaving no chance for M. Schwarzer.
After scoring the goal, the Manchester footballers completely pressed the visitors from Middlesbrough. J. Barton's shots went over the goal and wide, G. Samaras' shot was caught by M. Schwarzer, and veteran Claudio Reyna came close to hitting the target.
In the second half, the home team did not lose their advantage. But only at the end of the match, after a substitution, "Middlesbrough" striker Massimo Mccarone scored in the 86th minute from just a few meters into the top corner guarded by "Man City" goalkeeper Nicky Weaver. A few minutes later, "City" striker Darius Vassell also had a dangerous shot.
With a minute left to play, both teams exchanged very dangerous attacks. First, D. Vassell's powerful shot flew over the crossbar, and a few seconds later, the same "Boro" striker M. Mccarone hit the post for the second time in this match.
After this victory, "Man City" club moved to the 13th place with 12 points, while "Middlesbrough" occupies the 15th position.
