Jurgen Klinsmann confirmed negotiations for the United States national team coach position, but denied reports in the press that he asked for a salary of 2.5 million euros per year for the job.
At the moment, J. Klinsmann, who became a World Champion as a player with the West Germany national team in 1990, is indeed participating in preliminary talks with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF), but he claims that the mentioned price in the media is fabricated.
"It's nonsense. As usual, the speculation is wrong and the price was made up," Klinsmann explained in an interview with a German newspaper.
"Negotiations have just begun and it is not the right time to create tension," the German added.
In this World Cup, led by 42-year-old J. Klinsmann, the German national team achieved a respectable 3rd place, but the coach did not extend his contract. He spent his free time with his family in California.
