London's Tottenham head coach Martin Jol said he felt that the first victory in the London derby against Chelsea in the past 16 years could play a significant role for the team this season in a positive direction.
The Dutch strategist praised the team and pointed out the memorable historical fact: "It's been a long time since our last victory against Chelsea, so we can be proud of that. Robbie Keane was probably the best player in the match, Michael Dawson and Ledley King looked very good, and all the other players looked good too."
"We needed to win against a top-level team. We tried to attack and trust ourselves. It took us 25 minutes to get going, then we were superb," said Jol.
Meanwhile, Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho was furious with referee Graham Poll for not counting Didier Drogba's goal. Poll decided not to include it.
"Poll could explain why Drogba's goal was not counted. The result would have been 2-0. I don't understand why Mr. Poll wants to be the center of attention. The show is for Chelsea and Tottenham players," said Mourinho.
J. Mourinho also disagreed with the referee's decision to show a second yellow card to John Terry and leave Chelsea playing with ten men. He believes that Hossam Ghaly should have also received a red card for a foul on Michael Essien.
"Showing Terry a red card for contact in the penalty area when he was being attacked was absurd, then Ghaly should have also received a red card. I don't understand why referees don't speak and don't participate in press conferences after the match instead of the coaches," explained one of the most emotional strategists in England.
"I regret for my players and supporters, but I can say to Tottenham fans that they should continue to celebrate, as this is a significant moment for them," added J. Mourinho.
"We didn't deserve such a result. We were the better team for a long time, but Tottenham fought hard. It was an emotional, high-level football match," said the Portuguese coach.
