One of the most famous clubs in Italy has confirmed that the world champion with the national team, Gennaro Gatuso, who suffered an injury this summer, is much more serious than originally thought and the player will not play until January 2007.
The 28-year-old defender, who played only 15 minutes in the sensational 2-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Italian Serie A championship last weekend, suffered a knee injury and had to leave the field.
G. Gattuso's knee was examined by specialist Marc Martens, and although the player will not need surgery, treatment will begin this week and it is expected that the defender will only appear on the field after the New Year.
Club doctor Massimiliano Sala also told the "Milan" website about injuries related to other key players in the team.
The 29-year-old defender Massimo Ambrosini, who was injured in last week's derby against Inter Milan, still cannot play due to muscle pain.
