Cameroon rejoices - FIFA reduced the punishment © EuroFootball.com

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has lifted part of the punishment for the Cameroon national team for playing in the African Cup with one-piece athlete's clothing.

52 members of the African Confederation submitted a request to reduce the punishment to FIFA President Sepp Blatter, who explained that this should not be decided by him, but by the FIFA congress, and forwarded the request to the latter. At this congress, a member who voted anonymously satisfied the request.

This "exceptional exemption" was made in the name of the "FIFA centenary jubilee, football, and African well-being."

By lifting part of the punishment, Cameroon will start the African zone qualifying matches for the 2006 World Cup in Germany with zero points, not with a deficit of six points as the punishment had caused. The 200,000 Swiss francs fine, as confirmed by Blatter, remained unchanged.
