The goalkeeper of the Swiss national team and Leverkusen club has extended his contract - the 21-year-old player has signed a new two-year contract and will now represent the Bayer team until June 2010.
The player made a huge impression at the World Cup this summer, where he reached the quarterfinals with the Swiss national team, losing to Ukrainian footballers after a penalty shootout.
Therefore, the young Swiss player attracted the interest of the English Premier League club West Ham, but the footballer decided to stay in Germany.
Meanwhile, Bayer's general director Wolfgang Holzhauser says that the team's coach Michael Skibbe is also close to extending his contract.
W. Holzhauser told the German newspaper "Bild" that the former assistant coach of the German national team will be given the chance to continue leading the Bayer team.
"I think we will soon give him the opportunity to extend the contract," said general director W. Holzhauser.
Currently, Bayer has 15 points in the German Bundesliga after 11 rounds of matches and is in tenth place.
