Argentinian national team and forward Lionel Messi suffered a foot injury in a 3-1 victory on Sunday in a Spanish league match against "Zaragoza," which will keep him out of play for about three months.
"Messi broke one of the bones in his left foot. He will need surgery and it is believed that he will not be able to play for about three months," Barcelona's website stated on Monday.
The nineteen-year-old Argentinian national team forward left the field in the 23rd minute of Sunday's match. Before that, he was tackled by two "Zaragoza" defenders: Alberto Zapater and Albert Celades.
L. Messi will miss the remaining two "Barcelona" matches in the UEFA Champions League group stage against Sofia's "Levski" and Bremen's "Werder." Currently, the Catalan super club is only in third place in Group A.
The injury suffered by the Argentinian is a painful loss for the Spanish league leaders, as another forward, Cameroonian Samuel Eto'o, will have to fill in until next year.
Another Barcelona player suffered an injury on Sunday - Brazilian defender Edmilson twisted his ankle and will be out for about ten days.
