England national team and club midfielder Jermaine Jenas tore his calf muscle and because of that he will not be able to help his team for two weeks.
The 23-year-old player suffered the injury in last Sunday's 3-1 defeat against Reading and will miss the friendly match against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
"JJ suffered a minor tear in his calf muscle. I think he will be out for a few weeks," said Tottenham coach Martin Jol.
Jenas's absence means that veteran, 33-year-old former Netherlands national team midfielder Edgar Davids will get a rare start in the main team in Sunday's Premier League 13th round match against Blackburn.
"It's very frustrating when you don't play regularly and when you feel so good, when you think you should be playing," said Davids. "We train very hard, but I train extra and make use of all the facilities. I am still one of the best physically prepared players in the team."
"I think the coach still knows my abilities and I think I have shown my hunger for football," added the Dutchman.
In addition to Jenas, England's national team will also be without two of his teammates - captain Ledley King and winger Aaron Lennon, who suffered ankle injuries in the match against Reading.
