As reported by a club participating in the Spanish "Primera" league this Saturday, Brazilian legionnaire Edu, who plays as a defender, injured his knee ligaments in the match lost 3-0 against "Sevilla", and as a result, he may miss the rest of the season and won't be able to help the injury-plagued "Bats" team.

The 28-year-old player grabbed his sore knee in the final minutes of the match after awkwardly planting his foot and was forced to leave the field on stretcher. After initial examinations, it was revealed that the Brazilian will miss the last two UEFA Champions League Group D matches against Greece's Piraeus "Olympiacos" and Italy's "Roma".

Last season, the former "Arsenal" player tore the cruciate ligaments in his left knee during training, which kept him out of the lineup for seven months. However, doctors have now determined that the player will be sidelined for a longer period this time.

"There is a 90 percent chance that the player tore the cruciate ligaments in his right knee," said the medical staff of the "Valencia" club.

The news also saddened the "Bats" team that the team's top scorer, forward David Villa, also had to leave the field on Saturday due to an ankle injury. Head coach Quique Sanchez Flores' players are facing a real injury crisis this season, as defenders Carlos Marchena, Emiliano Moretti, and Asier del Horno, as well as midfielders David Albelda and Jaime Gavilan, have all suffered long-term injuries.

After a crushing defeat to "Sevilla" in the previous match, the "Valencia" team is in 6th place with 18 points after 11 rounds played.
