The defender of the England national team and the champion of the English Premier League, London's Wayne Bridge, has decided to tie his future with the "Blues" and has signed a new four-year contract with the club.
It was believed that the left-back would leave the English champions for the second time after being pushed out of the main team during the summer by the acquisition of another left-back, Ashley Cole, from Arsenal.
However, the 26-year-old player, who appeared in seven matches for Chelsea this season, decided to continue representing one of the most powerful clubs in Europe.
"I feel like I have been playing excellently all this time," the Englishman said. "I think I will have the opportunity to earn more game time, so I am extremely satisfied."
Bridge joined Chelsea in 2003 from Southampton, but spent the entire last season on loan to Fulham.
Although recovering from a leg injury, the left-back returned to Chelsea, but failed to secure a place in the main team under Jose Mourinho.
The Englishman signed a new contract just a few days after his wife Vanessa gave birth to their son, and unable to contain his joy, Bridge said: "It was a bloody good week."
The England national team defender, whose previous contract with the club had 18 months remaining, hopes to return to the Chelsea camp after missing the UEFA Champions League match with Werder Bremen and join the team in one of the most important matches of the season against the current Premier League leaders, Manchester United, on Sunday.
