After the team management meeting held on Monday, the club dismissed Felix Sarriugarte from the position of head coach. The official club website announces: "The Athletic board decided to dismiss the head coach of the main team, F. Sarriugarte, after the meeting."
After suffering a 1-3 loss to Sevilla over the weekend, the Basque club has only won one game out of 14 matches in the Spanish league and is currently in 18th place.
Former Athletic player F. Sarriugarte took over as the head coach of the team in July of this year, replacing Javier Clemente.
The main contenders to replace F. Sarriugarte are former Athletic coach (1996-2000) Luis Fernandez and former Alaves coach Jose Manuel Esnal.
On Monday, another team from the Primera Division - Tarragona's Gimnastic - also dismissed their head coach, Luis Angel Cesar.
