Vilnius will have to do without another veteran next season - after not renewing the contract with Aidus Preikšaitis, it became clear that the player's career is ending, as another goalkeeper who has been recovering from injuries for a significant part of this season.

Having celebrated his 33rd birthday on Tuesday, D. Vencevičius will work as an assistant coach to "Vėtra" next season. The goalkeeper played 23 matches in various tournaments for "Vėtra" this season and scored 1 goal, but at the end of the season he did not play due to injury.

"I always wanted to become a coach after finishing my playing career. During my career, I had the opportunity to work with very interesting coaches, from whom I could learn a lot. In Lithuania, I played for many years under the guidance of what I consider to be the best specialists in our country - Algimantas Liubinskas and Benjamin Zelkevičius. At the Warsaw "Polonia" club, I worked with Jerzy Engel, who later became the coach of the Polish national team and helped it qualify for the World Cup after many years," said D. Vencevičius on the official website of "Vėtra."

"Playing for "København," we became Danish champions under the coaching of the famous British specialist Roy Hodgson, who has coached famous clubs such as Inter Milan, Udinese, Blackburn, and currently manages the Finnish national team. The career of Stale Solbakken, who played with me at "København" and ended his playing career early due to health problems, but now successfully works as a coach - inspired me. The team he coached, Danish champions, made it to the main Champions League tournament this season. I will try to implement all the experience gained throughout my playing career as a coach," said the former player.

Having started his career at "Žalgiris" in Vilnius, D. Vencevičius has played for clubs in Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Malta. With "Žalgiris," he became the Lithuanian champion in 1992 and won the national cup four times. In 2001, with "København," he won the Danish champions title and also became the champion of Poland and Malta.

D. Vencevičius made his debut for the Lithuanian national team on March 15, 1995, in a friendly match against Poland, and played a total of 33 matches, scoring 2 goals.
