London team's head coach Martin Jol claims that England national team forward Jermain Defoe will not be sold during the player transfer window opening in January.
The 24-year-old player has been irregularly playing in the main team this season, and rumors have spread that he will leave the Spurs club in January.
"Jermain won't go anywhere. There are constantly speculation about him, but he is a very important player for us," said M. Jol. - "Next month the player transfer window will open and he is already linked to Man Utd, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Portsmouth."
Despite the fact that this season the Englishman failed to become a regular player for Tottenham, J. Defoe scored five goals in the last four matches against opponents. In the national championship, the player has scored three times.
Dutch specialist M. Jol is determined to keep the England national team striker in the team, as the club continues to compete in the UEFA Cup and after a poor start to the season in the Premier League, they are back on the path to victory.
This summer, Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov, acquired from the Leverkusen Bayer team for £10.9 million, is in excellent form and is the top scorer of the Spurs team, while Irish national team striker Robbie Keane has been chosen instead of J. Defoe in matches won against Chelsea and in European tournaments.
But Egyptian striker Mido suffered a groin injury and will be unable to play for two weeks, so coach M. Jol will greatly need the help of J. Defoe, as the team will play eight matches in December.
"I am not going to sell someone who plays a very important role in our team in the English League Cup, UEFA Cup, and English Premier League," added the 51-year-old strategist. - "All this talk is because Jermaine doesn't play regularly, but in the last nine matches, he started six times in the starting lineup. Robbie (Keane - ed.) has played three games in the main lineup in the national championship so far, but no one talks about him leaving."
This Saturday, Tottenham's next opponent in the English Premier League will be Arsenal, who after two consecutive losses to Bolton and Fulham, is in 6th place, while Spurs are in 11th position.
