The England national team midfielder Owen Hargreaves, who plays for the team in Munich, admitted that he still hopes to transfer to another club during the player market opening in January, but also added that it would be a surprise for him.
When asked by the "Kicker" magazine correspondent where he will be playing in January, O. Hargreaves replied, "I don't plan anything, it's not up to me - I have no influence on the decision. But surprises happen in life, so anything can happen during the winter break."
Before the start of the season, German champions offered 25 million euros for the footballer to English clubs, but this offer was rejected. The head coach of the English team, Sir Alex Ferguson, later hinted that a higher price will be offered in January.
The 25-year-old Englishman has not played since September 16, when he broke his foot in a match against "Arminia". The foot is still not properly healed, so the footballer, who won the Champions League with his current club in 2001, says he wants to fully recover and join his team mates at the beginning of next year.
"I hoped to play a few more matches this year, but I won't do it because it will be better for me," said O. Hargreaves.
Bayern Munich promised their fans that the Englishman, whose contract with the club is valid until June 2010, will return to the team once fully recovered from the injury.
"We will not allow Hargreaves to leave the club in January. All of Manchester United's attempts to acquire him will be in vain," assured the general director of Bayern Munich, Uli Hoeness.
