Another failure for "West Ham" © EuroFootball.com

On Wednesday evening, two more matches took place in the English Premier League. "West Ham", plagued by misfortune, suffered another defeat at home to "Wigan", while "Newcastle", trying to break out of a crisis, narrowly beat "Reading" 3-2 after a fierce battle.

"West Ham" started the match against "Wigan" very actively. Marlon Harewood and Carlos Tevez were especially noticeable. Tevez missed a great opportunity with his head at the end of the first half, but scored with a long-range shot at the start of the second.

Soon after, "Wigan" confirmed the unwritten rule – "if you don't score, they will". After receiving a pass from Kevin Kilbane, David Cotterill shot accurately from the right edge of the box into the far corner of the goal.

Just a few minutes later, the visitors celebrated their second goal: after a long shot from Leighton Baines, the ball deflected off the hosts' defender Jonathan Spectator and changed direction, ending up in the net.

Although "West Ham" put pressure on the opponents' goal towards the end of the match, it didn't help them avoid their fourth defeat in the last five matches. The "Hammers" found themselves in 18th place.

Trying to climb out of the bottom of the league table, "Newcastle" unexpectedly defeated the league newcomer "Reading" who had a successful start to the season.

The "Magpies" took the lead after Antoine Sibierski's precise header in the 23rd minute. However, towards the end of the first half, "Reading" defender James Harper scored two goals from outside the penalty area, making the score 1-2.

In the 57th minute, Obafemi Martins converted a penalty awarded for the foul by the visitors' defender Ibrahim Sonko on Emre, equalizing the score.

However, Emre became the hero of the match. In the 84th minute, the Turkish player scored accurately from a distance of 20 meters, securing victory for his team. This was Emre's first goal of the season in the Premier League.

Newcastle, winning their second consecutive game and not losing in the last four matches, moved up to 15th place.
