The Madrid club officially confirmed the acquisition of the young Argentine Gonzalo Higuain - the forward from the Buenos Aires team will move to Spain after the New Year and will sign a six-year contract valid until 2013.

As the Spanish press predicted, the player will cost around 13 million euros for the "Royal" club and will become the second winter purchase from South America - "Real" has also agreed to acquire Brazilian defender Marcelo from "Fluminense" for 7 million euros.

"G.Higuain," nicknamed Pipita, spent three seasons in the main lineup of "River Plate" and scored 13 goals in 35 matches. Nine of them the forward scored during the last "Apertura" season, where he was the top scorer in his team. The newspaper "Clarin" chose the forward as the "discovery of the year" last week.

G.Higuain's father Jorge was also a professional footballer and represented the team "Brest" in France, where his son was born in 1987. When the child was just 10 months old, he moved with his family to Argentina and has lived in this country ever since. Last month, the young talent was invited to friendly matches against Greece by the French national team coach Raymond Domenech, but the player's father replied via fax that his son does not want to play for this country yet.

The acquisition of G.Higuain continues the new policy of "Real" to renew the team's lineup, which is mainly made up of famous players aged 30 and older. It is believed that the shopping list of the Madrid club did not end there, and they are also considering the acquisition of another Argentine, midfielder Fernando Gago from Buenos Aires "Boca Juniors".
