"Cagliari" fired the head coach © EuroFootball.com

As expected, after the defeat against "Udinese" on Saturday, the club fired head coach Marco Giampaolo.

The coach's position in the team was hanging by a thread, as the team managed only two wins in the first 16 matches and played to a draw 10 times, five of which ended without goals.

The possible dismissal of the coach was already being discussed before the match, but the 3-1 loss to "Udinese" definitively sealed M. Giampaolo's fate.

During the meeting, dissatisfied with the team's performance, the coach made a substitution in the 36th minute, and after halftime, he replaced the player who had come out onto the field after the substitution. Despite playing the entire second half with ten men, the Sardinian club failed to seriously resist the opponents and only scored a consolation goal at the end of the match.

M. Giampaolo, who became famous after his excellent performance at "Ascoli" last year, is the third coach to be fired in "Serie A" this season after Attilio Tessero at "Ascoli" and Beppe Pillon at "Chievo". Among the candidates to coach "Cagliari" are former "Siena" coach Luigi De Canio and former "Reggina" coach Franco Colomba.
