The changes in the coaching staff of Borussia Dortmund. On Monday, by the initiative of the club leaders, the contract with head coach Bert van Marwijk was terminated.

"Borussia" and B. van Marwijk mutually agreed to terminate the contract in force. The coach immediately leaves his current position," the press release announces.

The 54-year-old specialist from the Netherlands, who had previously coached Rotterdam's "Feyenoord" before coming to Germany, did not hide the fact that he intended to step down from his duties after this season, but due to unsatisfactory results, he was forced to do so much earlier.

The patience of General Manager Hans-Joachim Watzke and other board members overflowed after the weekend loss in the country's championship with a score of 1-2 to Leverkusen's "Bayer" team, after which "Borussia" with 22 points falls only in ninth place. At the halfway point of the championship, the legendary German club is already 14 points behind the leader, Bremen's "Werder".

Meanwhile, Ottmar Hitzfeld, considered the most realistic candidate to take over the Dutchman's place, declared that he had rejected the possibility of returning to the "Borussia" team with which he triumphed in the UEFA Champions League in 1997.

"It is a great honor for me to receive such an offer and I considered it for a long time, but in the end, I decided to reject it," the German stated.
