From the highest league in Spain, relegated Vigo is preparing for a player sell-off. This was confirmed today by Celta president Horacio Gomez.
Celta played in the highest division in Spain for twelve seasons, and last year, for the first time in the club's history, secured a spot in the Champions League, but this year, with almost an unchanged lineup, the club finished in 19th place out of 20 teams in La Liga.
"No one could have imagined that in such memorable years, when we entered the Champions League, the club could be relegated from the top league," said Celta's president. "We are very disappointed about what happened, and now our main goal is to return to La Liga as soon as possible."
Gomez also listed the players who will not be representing the club next year: Russian Alexander Mostovoy, Serbians Milosevic and Illic, Chilean Mauricio Pinilla, and Argentine defender Fernandez Caceres.
"They will have to leave the club because we cannot afford to pay their requested salaries while playing in the second division," said Gomez. "I want the most important players to stay in the club, but we need professionals, not players who are only concerned about money."
The club president also confirmed that next year the team will be led by a new head coach, while Carnero and Saezas, who led the team after Radomir Antic resigned, will continue as coaches.
"We are looking for a coach with experience in coaching a team in the second division," said Celta's president.
