The club, which includes Lithuanian Robertas Poškus, took fourth place in the finished Russian football championship, shaking up the Russian football scene for the second time this year by improving the country's internal transfer record and acquiring Argentine forward Alejandro Dominguez for 7 million euros.
A little over a month ago, "Zenit" acquired Russia's national team forward Pavel Pogrebniak from Tomsk's "Tom" team for 5 million euros.
The 25-year-old Dominguez spent last season at another Russian club, Kazan, where he arrived from Argentina's "River Plate" in 2004 and scored 13 goals during the season. The player's contract with his former team still had a year left, but the ambitious "Zenit" took the opportunity and bought the rights to the footballer.
According to "Zenit" sports director Konstantin Sarsaniy, the player will sign a three-year contract with the club, earning around 2 million euros per year. This means that A. Dominguez, who helped his country's youth team win the World Championship in 2001, will become the second-highest earner at "Zenit" after Andrei Arshavin.
The arrival of these forwards likely spells the end of R. Poškus' career at "Zenit." The injury-prone Lithuanian failed to establish himself in the main team lineup last season and was loaned to Moscow's "Dynamo" club.
