Brazilian national team attacking midfielder Julio Baptista says he sees himself in English football, but asks for a chance to prove his abilities at a London club.
The 25-year-old Brazilian moved to London at the end of August on a loan period from Madrid's "Real" as part of a deal, in which Jose Antonio Reyes also moved to the Royal club for the same period of time.
Although both clubs will have the option to buy the players once the deal ends, at the moment J.Baptista has few opportunities to shine at the London club.
"Arsene Wenger tells me I have to wait until I get used to English football, but I definitely won't do that if I don't get to play," the midfielder reassured to Spanish sports newspaper "AS" on Tuesday. "It would be best for me to play as much as possible, evaluate everything at the end of the season, and decide whether the positives outweigh the negatives."
"I don't want to be just another 'Arsenal' player. I want to help the team," said J.Baptista. "I see my future in this club for a few more seasons."
At the end of the summer, Brazil was told that he was not part of the future vision of "Real," so now J.Baptista is unsure if he could adapt to the playing style of the Royal club.
"Real" is now a completely different team from the one I left. Coach Fabio Capello would have to change his tactics if he wanted me to return and play," added the Brazilian.
"Besides, I don't know if I had to leave the team because of Capello or because of the club's decision," the determined midfielder stated.
J.Baptista arrived at "Real" in 2005, when more than $24 million was paid to Sevilla for him. However, the Brazilian failed to secure a place in the starting lineup for the European Champions nine times.
