The new "Premier" league club coach Alan Pardew has seriously decided to invite former Edinburgh defender Steven Pressley. It is believed that both sides should reach an agreement within the next 24 hours.
The 33-year-old Scottish defender watched the "Charlton" and "Fulham" match (2-2) at the stadium on Wednesday.
"This is a great opportunity to invite him to our team," said A. Pardew, emphasizing that he is greatly impressed by the leadership qualities of the Scot on the field.
S. Pressley is currently a free agent. Nearly three weeks ago, due to disagreements with club owner Vladimir Romanov, he left his former club Edinburgh "Hearts", where he played since 1998.
Alan Pardew, who replaced Les Reed as the head coach of "Charlton" just a few days ago, said: "We are seriously considering the possibility of inviting S. Pressley before the January transfer window opens. However, I am never guaranteed a contract until it is signed."
The possibility of acquiring former "Hearts" defender was also of interest to clubs like "Celtic", "Rangers", "Southampton", "Derby County", and "Leeds".
A. Pardew also stated that "Charlton" striker Darren Bent will remain in the team at least until summer.
