The England national team and club striker Darren Bent will not be able to help his struggling club for four weeks due to a knee injury suffered in a match against Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old player, who has scored a total of 9 goals this season (8 of them in the English Premier League), has not impressed the team's former manager Les Reed and scored two goals in the last two matches under the guidance of the new coach Alan Pardew.
"We are all shocked and very disappointed. Other players will now have the opportunity to prove that they are a team and can play without Darren," a club source told the Daily Mirror.
The new club coach A. Pardew will have to look for a way out and attract a new striker to the team when the players' transfer market opens.
D. Bent, who managed to score 18 goals in the English Premier League last season and was one of the top scorers in the championship, was not called up to the England national team and did not travel to the World Cup held in Germany.
"Charlton" acquired the striker in the summer of 2005 from Ipswich Town for 3 million pounds. D. Bent, who extended his contract with the club for another four years this summer, wore the Charlton team's jersey 145 times and scored against opponents' goalkeepers 55 times.
At the moment, under A. Pardew's leadership, Charlton is in the penultimate 19th position in the Premier League and will face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London today.
