The head coach Harry Redknapp angrily denied rumors that defender Sol Campbell and striker Kanu will leave the team this January.
On Monday, Kanu, who has been in great sporting form this season, expressed his desire to return to Amsterdam, while S. Campbell would like to see manager Jose Mourinho of a London team with a shortage of defenders in his ranks.
Despite all the rumors, H. Redknapp openly stated that he has no intention of letting go of either the Nigerian or the Englishman.
"Kanu cannot leave, he still has a valid contract. The striker is currently playing very well and he hasn't discussed the possibility of leaving with me.
"As for S. Campbell, I haven't heard anything. We need to keep him, this player is the backbone of our defense."
One of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League, Kanu, told the newspaper "Vanguard" that "Portsmouth" should release him back to Amsterdam, where he has previously played for the renowned "Ajax" club.
"I want to go back to Ajax. The "Portsmouth" management and coaches should be grateful for what I have done and let me leave without hindrance.
"Now I am waiting for an offer from the Dutch club and I have already told my current employers that I intend to leave. I have already made up my mind."
H. Redknapp reacted sternly to such statements: "Kanu signed a one-year contract and must play until August. We would have to pay him a salary even if he was worthless and didn't score goals. And "Ajax" hasn't contacted me yet.
"I don't want unhappy players in my team, but I love Kanu and I don't want to lose him."
