Xabi Alonso, the midfielder for the Spanish national team and a Premier League club, denied all the rumors about his desire to return to Spain and stated that he will stay in the Liverpool team.
"I don't want to talk about rumors linking me with a return to Spain," said X. Alonso. "I have a contract with the 'Reds' and I am extremely happy in this team."
"Currently, the third place we hold is morally important, as at the beginning of the season, in the first few months, we often stumbled. Our current task is to consolidate our positions," the Spaniard said.
"Liverpool," on Monday, defeated Sam Allardyce's "Bolton" players 3-0 and rose to third place, pushing the latter down one step.
25-year-old X. Alonso, who was acquired in 2004 from the Real Sociedad, believes that "Liverpool" can catch up with the two-time consecutive champions, Chelsea, who are only eight points ahead.
"Now 'Liverpool' is playing at its best level in this season," added the Spaniard, who, according to the Spanish media, was linked with transfers to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. "We achieved a great victory for New Year's and I think it's a good start for other victories."
This season, X. Alonso is one of the key choices of head coach Rafael Benitez and has already scored three times in the Premier League.
