In the penultimate place in the German Bundesliga standings, the club acquired one of the leaders of the championship, the goalkeeper of the Gelsenkirchen club Frank Rost.
The 33-year-old experienced goalkeeper, who lost his starting position in the Gelsenkirchen team after a injury in October to the 20-year-old Markus Neuer, signed a two-year contract with the new club 'Hamburger' until 2009.
It is believed that the club in the relegation zone paid about 1.7 million euros for F. Rost, and this sum should increase if 'Hamburger' avoids relegation to the lower German league.
F. Rost will meet his new teammates at the training base in Dubai this Friday and is expected to make his debut in a friendly match against the Iranian national team on Monday.
“I am looking forward to new challenges,” said the goalkeeper. “'Hamburger' has a team with great potential.”
“Frank's vast experience will be a huge help to us and provide the whole team with additional stability,” said the club's sports director Dietmar Beiersdorfer, delighted with the new acquisition.
Frank Rost began his career at Werder Bremen club in 1992, and after spending ten years in Bremen, he moved to Schalke in 2002, where he played for four years.
