Three years ago Milan had a chance to buy Brazilian Kakà, but didn't take advantage of this opportunity.
Such a mistake was revealed yesterday by president Gino Corioni: "We couldn't afford to buy the player for 10.5 million euros. So we decided to offer to split the price with Inter, but they weren't interested."
"It's not difficult to see what talent this guy has. All I needed was to see three minutes of his playing on tape, and I knew he could one day indirectly compete with the legendary Michel Platini," said Corioni.
So the player could have been in Italy long ago, as his former club "Sao Paulo" was getting ready to sell him. However, Inter didn't want to buy him in November 2001, and a year later Kakà didn't fit into coach Hector Cuper's 4-4-2 tactical scheme.
Brazilian national team defender Kakà was one of the best players in Serie A this season and last summer was bought for only 9 million euros. His excellent performance helped win the Italian championship.
