Berlin club and Croatian national team defender Josip Simunich announced that he has received attention from London leaders.
English champions have been eyeing the defender for some time now, as injuries and disqualifications have weakened Jose Mourinho's team. With goalkeeper Petr Cech and captain John Terry sidelined, "Chelsea" have conceded more goals than usual in the national league - 2 or even 3 goals per match.
"I know that 'Chelsea' is interested in acquiring me," J. Simunich told Croatia's largest daily newspaper "Vecernji List". "But for now, that's all I can say.
"The final word on my future will be said by 'Hertha'.
The Croatian's contract with the German team is valid until the summer of 2011. According to unofficial data, the English would have to pay around 8 million euros to bring J. Simunich to their ranks.
Among other candidates mentioned in the media who could strengthen "Chelsea's" defense are Israeli legionnaire Tal Ben Haim and young talent Micah Richards.
