During the last season, Vilnius, which finished third but has no shortage of ambitions to fight for the title of Lithuanian champions, continues to strengthen. On Tuesday, the club was joined by 26-year-old defender Marijan Budimir. A one-year contract was signed with the Croatian with the possibility of extending it for another year.
"I hope to quickly adapt to the team and help 'Vėtra' fight for top positions in the Lithuanian championship. I think I will have many opportunities to improve in 'Vėtra,' where the team is led by a famous coach with whom it will be interesting to work. I came to get to know the club a couple of months ago, I liked it here - beautiful city, cozy stadium, great atmosphere in the team," said Marijan Budimir, who signed the contract.
M.Budimir began his career with Split's "Hajduk," becoming a Croatian champion with this team. Later, the defender signed a contract with the Italian "Serie A" league team "Udinese," but did not establish himself in the team and moved to Slovenia in 2001, where he played for several seasons for the Slovenian club "Celje Publicum."
The "Vėtra" newcomer has also represented all age groups of the Croatian youth national teams and played three friendly matches for the national team while representing Split's "Hajduk."
The capital's team is already leaving for a training camp in Turkey on Wednesday, where they will play friendly matches with Moscow's "Dynamo" and "Spartak," as well as Odessa's "Chornomorets" clubs.
As reported on Tuesday by the newspaper "Lietuvos žinios," the club's trial also includes defender Almir Sulejmanovic from Slovenia, who represented Klaipėda's "Atlantas" in the first half of last season.
