Although just last Sunday Paris coach Guy Lacombe insisted stubbornly that he would not leave his position at the club, today the team already has a new coach. The former footballer and recently coach of "Rangers" Paul Le Guen has been appointed as the new coach.
On Monday, an official statement from the Paris club stated: "Today Mr. Guy Lacombe has been relieved of his duties as team coach, and he will be replaced by Mr. Paul Le Guen with assistant Yves Colleu."
Under G. Lacombe's guidance, the "P.S.G" players reached the UEFA Cup round of 16, but in the French championship they have been struggling lately, currently sitting in 17th place after 19 rounds. The patience of the team leaders was exhausted by the last weekend's defeat to the "Valenciennes" team. Although G. Lacombe did not respond to criticism and calls to resign, he was dismissed.
For 42-year-old Paul Le Guen, the Paris club is not unfamiliar – he played here for seven years as a player and won the UEFA Cup in 1996. Later, as a coach, he triumphed in France with "Lyon" in 2003, 2004, and 2005. In the last seven months, P. Le Guen led Glasgow "Rangers", but left the club in early January due to internal disagreements.
Meanwhile, "P.S.G" defender from Brazil Paulo Cesar, who represented the team 48 times, has agreed to transfer to "Toulouse" and will sign a three-year contract with this club.
