London is strengthening its defense - the club from the other English capital team "Tottenham" acquired defender Calum Davenport and, according to the English press, should also poach defender Lucas Neill from "Blackburn".

24-year-old C. Davenport moved to "Tottenham" for £3 million in August 2004 from "Coventry", but failed to establish himself in the main team and was loaned to "West Ham", "Southampton", and "Norwich" clubs. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but it is believed that "West Ham" paid the same £3 million for the player.

Meanwhile, a deal with Australian L. Neill should be made until the summer of 2009. The player had practically agreed with "Liverpool", but at the last moment on Wednesday night chose, as it is believed, a more profitable offer.

"Lucas agreed to sign a 2.5-year contract with the possibility of extension," - said the defender's agent Peter Harrison to the newspaper "The Times".

It is said that this decision by Lucas Neill surprised "Liverpool" coach Rafael Benitez, who had practically shaken hands with the player.

"If he takes too long to think about the transfer, maybe that means he's not the player we need," - said R. Benitez speaking to "Daily Mirror".

"West Ham" new coach Alan Curbishley, in order to keep the team in the Premier League, is pursuing an active buying policy and intends to further strengthen the team. In January, the team was already reinforced by midfielders Luis Boa Morte and Nigel Quashie.
