The coach of the English club Glenn Roeder publicly apologized to the team's supporters for the embarrassing defeat in the third round replay of the English Cup at home to Birmingham. The hosts lost with a score of 1-5 (the first match in Birmingham ended in a draw 2-2).

The coach of Birmingham club, currently leading the second tier of English league, Steve Bruce, expressed his joy that even in the wildest dreams they did not imagine beating the Newcastle team 5-1 on their own field.
