Brussels security guard Mbarkas Boussoufa was named the best player in Belgium in 2006 on Wednesday. This title was awarded to the player after counting the votes of the country's journalists, coaches, and former award winners.
Born in Amsterdam, the 22-year-old Moroccan national team defender was named the best young player in Belgium last May.
"It's nice to know that my efforts are appreciated and I was chosen as the best in Belgium, but my main goal is to win the Belgian championship with my club," said M. Boussoufa, who joined Anderlecht in the summer.
"Anderlecht" currently holds the 2nd place in the Belgian championship and is just three points behind the leading club "Genk."
