The club, currently in third place in the English Premier League, officially announced on Wednesday the acquisition of promising Dutch forward Jordy Brouwer.
The 18-year-old footballer is the latest step by manager Rafael Benitez in assembling talented players from around the world for the future. Earlier this winter, the team was bolstered by 21-year-old Italian goalkeeper Daniele Padelli and in early January, Argentine Emiliano Insua celebrated his 18th birthday with the team.
"This is a good purchase for the future," said Liverpool chairman Rick Perry. "J. Brouwer had a valid contract with Ajax, but decided to take the opportunity to come to us.
"We have been closely monitoring his progress and hope that in Liverpool he will have the opportunity to shine and show everything he is capable of."
