The new club attacker Milan Baros announced this month that he had long been negotiating with London and had a real opportunity to wear the shirt of the team defending the title of the English champion.
The Czech national team footballer, who has recently represented Birmingham, officially signed a contract with Lyon this Monday and will have the opportunity to work with the French coach Gerard Houllier again, who coached him for several years at Liverpool.
As M. Baros told journalists, he found out about the possibility of moving to London on January 2, after the clubs' match. However, the transfer did not happen because Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips refused to be included in the deal and did not want to go to Birmingham.
"Personally, I agreed to move to Chelsea, the negotiations were almost complete," said M. Baros.
"Everything suddenly fell apart when S.W. Phillips said he did not want to go to Aston Villa. Then coach Martin O'Neill said it was all over because if I went to Chelsea, he would have too few attacking players."
It all started at the beginning of January when the charismatic Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho approached the Czech.
"After those matches, J. Mourinho asked me in the tunnel if I would be interested in playing for Chelsea. I answered positively, but as you can see, everything ultimately fell apart."
When asked if he regrets missing the opportunity to move to such a powerhouse of the old continent, M. Baros replied negatively: "I would regret it if I had moved to a lesser club. Now I am going to play not just anywhere, but at Lyon."
