"Barcelona" did not defeat "Betis" © EuroFootball.com

On Wednesday, the only rescheduled match was played in Spain - at home in Seville, "Betis" managed to hold off European champions "Barcelona". The match ended 1-1, allowing "Barcelona" to become the sole leader of the Spanish championship.

The hosts took the lead after 37 minutes with a goal by Brazilian forward Roberto from a corner kick, but in the middle of the second half "Barcelona" equalized the score with a header by Mexican national team defender Rafael Marquez.

However, at the end of the match, "Betis" almost scored the winning goal, when Brazilian Assuncao hit the goal frame with a penalty kick, and in extra time defender Nano's header went just wide of the goal.

"We didn't expect this result," said "Barcelona" coach Frank Rijkaard after the match. "It's difficult to play in Seville, and "Betis" are strong opponents."
