London's "Arsenal" coach Arsene Wenger was satisfied with his team's young players who, trailing 0-2 as guests in the semi-finals of the English League Cup against "Tottenham," managed to snatch a 2-2 draw. Most of the Gunners' regular players were represented on the field by reserve team players.
"I think many of them will play in the return leg matches again, as they performed excellently. We are fighting for a place in the final and the boys are well prepared for it. It's not a coincidence, but a proof of the players' quality," the Gunners' manager said.
"We were surprised by the opponents' start - they began the match excellently, and our players felt a lack of experience. During halftime, I tried to inspire the young players who were disappointed. In the second half, we showed how talented we are and brought back the intrigue. I think we could have scored a third goal," Wenger said.
Meanwhile, "Tottenham" coach Martin Jol was disappointed with the result, but was not ready to give up.
"I think we needed to press the opponents after the second goal. After halftime, they started various attacks and we ran out of steam. "Arsenal" played superbly. On the other hand, we have not lost yet - we will meet again in a week, so nothing is lost," Jol said.
The return leg match will take place on January 31 at the "Arsenal" stadium.
