Vilnius "Žalgiris" will continue to be coached by the legendary Lithuanian footballer and current club president Arminas Narbekovas. His assistant, just like last year, will be the coach Mindaugas Čepas.
"There is no more time to look for candidates for the position of head coach. Now is the preparatory period for the team, we need to work with the players. We were looking for a coach, but we didn't find one that would suit "Žalgiris"," said A.Narbekovas to alyga.lt website.
The president of "Žalgiris" held the position of head coach of the team at the end of last season, when Igoris Pankratjevas with Viačeslavas Sukristovas left their posts. Then, in the last 6 matches of the season, the team coached by A.Narbekovas won 4 victories, played twice in a draw, and finished in 4th place, securing the right to play in the new Baltic Football League.
Earlier, there were rumors that the team from Vilnius could be coached by Benjamin Zelkevičius, working at Liepaja "Mettulurg", or the famous former football player Raimondas Žutautas, but the negotiations did not go well.
According to A.Narbekovas, who has recently been abroad, several foreigners should arrive for the team's review in the near future. So far, there is only one newcomer in the team - defender from Belarus Aleksejus Dubyna, with whom the contract has not been signed yet.
The season for Žalgiris will start on March 7th with Baltic League matches in Tallinn against the local team "Levadia".
