The second part of the Bundesliga championship unexpectedly started on Friday evening in the first match of the new year in Dortmund's "Borussia" home. After a tough battle, they managed to defeat the defending champions "Bayern". The match started more successfully for the hosts, supported by 80 thousand fans, who took the lead after just over ten minutes. A precise shot by A.Frei after Dede's pass found the net against Oliver Kahn's goal, warmly welcomed by the home fans. After conceding an early goal, Bayern did not falter and quickly equalized – in the middle of the first half, D. van Buyten scored from a penalty kick. Shortly after, both teams exchanged dangerous attacks, but the goalkeepers managed to save their nets from a goal. Nevertheless, Bayern took the lead at the end of the first half when R.Makaay scored after a mistake by Borussia's defender Brzenskos and goalkeeper. The situation quickly changed in the second half – in the 57th minute, A.Frei scored another similar goal with his head and equalized. Within a couple of minutes, Borussia took the lead after Tinga scored from close distance. Despite their efforts in the remaining half-hour, Bayern failed to equalize, and Borussia ended the match with a victory against the league champions. Earning three points allowed Borussia to rise to seventh place, while Munich remained third in the league, behind "Werder" and "Schalke".
