Former Spain national team midfielder Gaizka Mendieta, who now represents a club playing in the English Premier League, may spend the remaining part of the season in his homeland - interest in the footballer was expressed by the club from San Sebastian.
32-year-old Mendieta, who became a coach for the team Gareth Southgate, rarely makes it into the starting lineup and due to the struggle of "Real Sociedad" this season to stay in the highest division of Spanish football, they took advantage of this and made an offer to lease the Spaniard until the end of the season to the English team.
However, the proposal of the "Middlesbrough" leaders to lease the player does not satisfy them and they want to sell the player completely, which the Spanish club does not agree to do, so it is currently unclear whether this deal will take place.
"At the moment we have some problems with "Middlesbrough", but everything should be clarified in the near future," said Mendieta's agent Alberto Toldra.
Mendieta reached the high point of his career playing for the "Valencia" team, with which he played in the UEFA Champions League final for two consecutive years. After that, the player moved to Italy, where he did not fit in with the Roma "Lazio" club and was loaned to "Barcelona", and later to "Middlesbrough" clubs. In England, Mendieta gradually recovered and a year later, in 2004, officially became a player of an English club, but injuries that plagued the player prevented him from establishing himself in the main team.
