On Sunday, the last matches of the 26th round took place in the Scottish Premier League. In a fierce battle, the championship leaders Glasgow Celtic defeated the 8th place Inverness footballers at the end of the meeting.
1 – 2
37‘ [0 – 1] Derek Riordan
57’ [1 – 1] Graham Bayne
90+2’ [1 – 2] Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
Just 2 minutes in, Inverness striker Dennis Wyness had to leave the game due to a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Rory McAllister.
McAllister soon tested Artur Boruc's alertness with a dangerous long shot.
However, it was Celtic who scored first. In the 37th minute, Steven Pressley suddenly surged from defense to attack - breaking through on the right side, he crossed the ball into the penalty area, where amidst confusion, goalkeeper Derek Riordan directed the ball into the net. However, shortly after, S. Pressley was replaced by Darren O'Dea due to a back injury.
After the break, the hosts equalized the score when in the 57th minute, Graham Bayne scored with a header after a Grant Munro pass.
Throughout the remaining time, Celtic had slightly more control over the situation on the field, although the game was evenly balanced.
However, luck smiled on the champions in the final moments of the match. Inverness defenders unsuccessfully tried to clear the ball from the penalty area, and seizing the opportunity, Dutchman Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored a goal from about 10 meters - 1-2.
With their 20th win of the season, Celtic widened the gap to 19 points ahead of Rangers, who played a goalless draw with Hearts on Saturday.
