The forward of the Nigerian national team and Shakhtar Donetsk is leaving the Ukrainian team and moving to a club playing in the English Premier League - this was officially announced by representatives of Shakhtar on Monday.
"Aghahowa has been with us for almost eight years and it's time for him to go elsewhere," said Donetsk team coach Mircea Lucescu after a 0-2 defeat to Moscow's CSKA team in a friendly tournament in Israel.
"He wants to play in England and we have decided to let him do it," added the coach. "At the moment he is in London finalizing the last formalities."
The 24-year-old forward of the Nigerian national team will move to the English team once he receives a work permit for the UK.
For now, the transfer fee is not publicly disclosed. It is believed that Aghahowa, who transferred to Shakhtar from the Tunisian club Esperance for less than $4 million in 2000, could now move to Wigan for almost double the amount - around $7 million.
