The Glasgow club, occupying second place in the Scottish Premier League, announced that they have decided to allow team defender Thomas Buffel to leave the team and start negotiations with a club interested in him.
The midfielder from the German Bundesliga has been interested in acquiring the Belgian national team defender for some time, but Rangers did not agree to let him go and offered the player a new contract. Things took a different turn when Buffel refused to sign the new contract. Then the Glasgow club management decided not to hinder the player's career and allowed him to start negotiations with the Germans.
The 25-year-old defender, who moved from the Dutch club Feyenoord to Rangers for £2.3 million in 2005, was also interested in another Dutch team, AZ Alkmaar, but Hannover was the first to contact the player.
Now the German club has to quickly finalize the personal contract details with the player by Wednesday night, when the winter transfer window will close and teams will not be able to buy new players until summer.
Buffel is the second defender to leave Rangers in recent weeks. Earlier, another defender Jeremy Clement moved to Paris Saint-Germain with coach Paul Le Guen.
On the other hand, Glasgow fans should not worry too much, as according to the Scottish press, in the near future the club should be reinforced by Hearts of Edinburgh and Scotland national team midfielder Paul Hartley.
