The defender from Madrid who became a world champion with the Italian national team last summer once again received recognition - at the Italian football Oscars award ceremony, he was chosen as the best football player.
At the awards ceremony in Milan, organized by the Italian Footballers Association, Cannavaro also triumphed in two other categories - he was chosen as the best Italian footballer and the best defender.
Earlier, the player won two more prestigious awards in November, being named the best European footballer, and then a month later winning the FIFA award for the best player in the world.
In addition to Cannavaro, other members of the World Champions team also received awards at Monday's ceremony. Gianluigi Buffon, the goalkeeper for Turin's Juventus, was named the goalkeeper of the year, Roma defender Daniele De Rossi received the best young player prize, and Fiorentina striker Luca Toni won the award for most goals scored.
In other categories, Milan defender Kakha Kaladze triumphed as the best foreign player. However, he had to share this award with Udinese player David Suazo. Meanwhile, the best coach of the year was Luciano Spalletti, who led Roma back into the fight for the title of champions.
