On the second day of the European Youth (up to 21 years old) championship, victories were achieved by the tournament host Germany and the Swedish team, who respectively defeated the teams of Switzerland and Portugal.

Germany - Switzerland 2 - 1 21' Benjamin Auer [1 - 0] 63' Thomas Hitzlsperger [2 - 0] 75' David Degen [2 - 1]

The hosts of the championship, despite the injury of one of the team leaders Lukas Podolski, secured a victory against the Swiss neighbors. In the 21st minute after Görlitz's pass, Auer headed the ball into the net, and after playing a little over an hour, Hitzlsperger finished the attack with a precise shot. The Swiss team found consolation with a goal from David Degen, taking advantage of a loose ball.

Sweden - Portugal 3 - 1 28' Hugo Almeida [0 - 1] 40', 50' Johan Elmander [1 - 1, 2 - 1] 71' Stefan Ishizaki [3 - 1]

The Swedish team recovered from a disappointing start to the match and won by a two-goal margin. Portugal started the game pressing their opponents and Hugo Almeida's header put his team in the lead. The Swedes regained their composure with ten minutes left in the first half, when Stefanidis made a great run and provided an assist to Elmander, who only had to send the ball into the net. Five minutes into the second half, Elmander scored again, and Ishizaki's shot secured Sweden's victory.

Meanwhile, the second match of Group A will be played today - the surprising team of Belarus will face Croatia at 16:30, while Italy will compete against the team of Serbia and Montenegro at 21:45.
