The club that has not been very successful this season in the English Premier League announced that they have rented the defender Oguchi Onyewu from the Belgian team Standard Liege until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old footballer has already passed a medical examination and should make his debut in the team in the upcoming Premier League matches.
"We have acquired a good player. Oguchi is physically strong and will help our team improve their position in the English championship," said Newcastle's head coach, Glenn Roeder.
The rental agreement also includes a clause that gives the English club the option to purchase the player permanently at the end of the season. It is worth mentioning that several famous European clubs, including the money-spending Chelsea from London, were interested in acquiring this player.
The former defender of the French team Metz played in all three matches for the USA national team in the World Cup in Germany last year and was recognized as the country's best football athlete.
