According to the Belarusian press, the new head coach of FBK is expected to be the experienced strategist from this country, Vladimir Kurnevas, while Eugenijus Riabovas, who has recently led the team, is expected to take on assistant duties.
The 56-year-old coach said in an interview with "Pressball" that he was recommended to the owner of "Kaunas," Vladimir Romanov, during the Unity Cup tournament by the current Belarusian coach, Yuri Puntus.
"Vladimir called and asked if I was ready. When I said yes, he told me to get a visa. It was a big surprise to me. It is no secret that I accepted the offer with pleasure. I do not yet know the length of the contract," said V. Kurnevas.
He also admitted that he would like to invite Aleksandras Šimkevičius, the physical trainer of Minsk's "Lokomotiv," and Albert Rybaka, the goalkeeper coach from his former club Gardinas "Neman," to Kaunas, while E. Riabovas is likely to be the assistant coach.
When asked about his future tasks, V. Kurnevas said that he does not know them yet: "But they are clear - we will need to defend the champions title and go as far as possible in the UEFA Champions League qualifying matches."
V. Kurnevas' last workplace was the "Neman" club, where the Lithuanian Liudas Rumbutis was recently appointed as the head coach. During his almost 25-year coaching career, the Belarusian has led 13 teams, most of which were teams from this country.
