Brazilian defender Djalminha has left La Coruna. This happened after the player and the club agreed to terminate a contract that still had a year to run.
The 33-year-old former Brazilian national team defender joined Deportivo in 1997 from Palmeiras, but recently he could not reach an agreement with the club regarding money that should be paid to the Spanish tax authorities.
Both parties decided to settle these disputes and on Thursday terminated the contract. According to the termination agreement, Deportivo will have to pay part of the taxes, and Djalminha will not be able to sign a contract with any other Spanish club.
Djalminha, who was one of the team's leaders in 2000 when Deportivo won the Spanish championship title for the first time in the club's history, thanked the fans in his farewell speech: "I will never forget the fans, especially because they were the ones who gave me strength when things didn't go well."
"Now a new stage will begin in my career," the Brazilian said vaguely about his plans. "I want to find a new club as soon as possible and start working again."
