"Bayern" fired F. Magath © EuroFootball.com

In recent times, the Munich club, unsuccessfully competing in the German Bundesliga, dismissed coach Felix Magath from the position of head coach.

The patience of Munich team leaders ran out when the team lost to Dortmund's "Borussia" last weekend and played a goalless draw with "Bochum" on Tuesday, falling to fourth place in the German championship, five points behind leaders "Werder" and "Schalke". "Bayern" also dropped out of the German Cup tournament in December, losing to "Aachen".

The 53-year-old F. Magath, who played for "Hamburg" for ten years in his youth, took over at "Bayern" in the summer of 2004 and helped the team win the German championship titles for two consecutive years.

One of the main contenders to replace F. Magath is Ottmar Hitzfeld, with whom the Munich team won the UEFA Champions League in 2001.

"Bayern" is still participating in the most prestigious European club football tournament and will face Madrid's "Real" in the Champions League quarterfinals in three weeks.
